MarketMontana has evolved over the past few years to be one of the best western states. Five years ago, interest was limited, but since then more and more collectors have been attracted to the state. The collecting pattern is almost invariably statewide. Despite a very accessible territorial period, interest is well divided between 19th and 20th century covers. Material is fairly scarce, but not so scarce as to frustrate a collector. Among the 50 states, the District of Columbia, R.P.O.'s and Streetcars, Montana rates as the 1st state in terms of percentage of covers sold at 91.03%. It ranks 22nd in terms of the value of covers sold as percentage of all town cancels sold at 1.50%. The overall rank is 5th. This is a ten year running average. The most recent trends are about the same. |
