That had never happened before and thankfully, it has not happened since. That about says it all for the Oklahoma cover market. On a more positive note, there appears to be some new life. A couple of collectors are working on the territorial period. Several other collectors are working on certain parts of the states. I have been told there are a number of natives who collect, but I can't confirm the story. There is slightly more interest in the Indian territory half of the state than the Oklahoma Territory half. With such a long and accessible territorial period, a fair amount of material on the market, there are tremendous opportunities for a potential collector. Among the 50 states, the District of Columbia, R.P.O.'s and Streetcars, Oklahoma rates as the 38th state in terms of percentage of covers sold at 49.09%. It ranks 36th in terms of the value of covers sold as percentage of all town cancels sold at 0.86%. The overall rank is 42nd. This is a ten year running average. The most recent trends are about the same. |
