Texas Post Offices By County by John Germann and Myron Jantzen is a listing with a map and description of the town. This work is being published serially by the authors Texas Postal History Handbook by Charles Deaton has a post office list correct only until about 1930, but also has much useful information about the art of collecting Texas covers. Texas The Drama Of Its Postal Past by A. Ter Braake is monograph about Texas postal history. You can access my online guide of Texas Post Offices here. MarketTexas has a complex and difficult market. The state is far too big to collect in its entirety, while most counties are too small to be the single focus of a collection. As a result collector interest has suffered. Collectors have needed to find a non traditional focus. There are collectors of some counties and some groups of counties, and some other types of focus. I wish I had some feel for the Texas marketplace. There are a fair number of collectors, but none collects particularly broadly. There are many opportunities to find an un-crowded area of Texas covers to collect. Among the 50 states, the District of Columbia, R.P.O.'s and Streetcars, Texas rates as the 22nd state in terms of percentage of covers sold at 55.07%. It ranks 17th in terms of the value of covers sold as percentage of all town cancels sold at 1.77%. The overall rank is 14th. This is a ten year running average. The most recent trends are decreasing. |
