Vermont
BibliographyVermont philatelic literature consists of:The Postal History of Vermont by George Slawson, Arthur Bingham and Sprague Drenean is a comprehensive work on Vermont with a post office list good to 1969, comments on markings, stamp usages and much more. A Checklist of Vermont Post Offices by Richard W. Helbock is a compact post office guide. However, the scarcity ratings are dangerously wrong. The Vermont Philatelist November 2006 Vermont DPO Guide by Bill Lizotte is a journal issue with accurate scarcity ratings. You can access my online guide of Vermont Post Offices here. MarketVermont covers are in strong demand. There are enough serious collectors that scarce D.P.O.'s can reach prices higher than those of any other non-Western state. Traditionally, collectors have focused on the entire state, but there are now collectors who limit the area of the state they seek. Collectors are more willing to accept 20th century covers than from any other Eastern or Midwestern state. There is some division in the marketplace. Very scare $100 and up items find competition. Items priced less than $20 have very strong competition. There is weakness in the $20 to $100 range. Among the 50 states, the
District of Columbia, R.P.O.'s and Streetcars, Vermont
rates as the 8th state in terms of percentage of covers
sold at 71.27%. It ranks 18th in terms of the value of
covers sold as percentage of all town cancels sold at
1.70%. The overall rank is 6th. This is a ten year
running average. The most recent trends are about the
same. |
